Spring 2009 Trackwork- Ramp Track

Thanks to some recently acquired modern tools this season has seen significant progress in trackwork along the railroad.  Case in point, some new track in Milford!

In the Delaware-Otsego era, a track on the north side of the Rte. 166 crossing and east of "main" was used to offload equipment.  Called the "ramp track", this is where DO steam engine #2 was parked for years before moved to Cooperstown for display.  The wooden ramp structure has been removed and slowly progress has been made to extend the track towards Rte. 166 for storage purposes.

The first step involved removing all the rails and ties on top.  Courtesy of Ken Olsen, Jr. All track was removed back to the switch.  What this siding looked like in D&H days is anyone's guess.  Perhaps it ran a little closer to the building on the left?  Courtesy of Ken Olsen, Jr. The first bunch of ties on the level in place. Courtesy of Ken Olsen, Jr. With winter has come a cessation of work, but enough track has been put down to park some rolling stockin.  Always a "when time allows" project, progress has been a bit slow due to other priority projects.  Courtesy of Ken Olsen, Jr.
April 11, 2009!  Having a air spiker has made a world of difference.  Chief Mechanical Officer C. Lord and volunteer L. Nienart zip along with the tool.  Joshua K. Blay The bumper, formerly located along the D&H in Oneonta, just about assembled.  The Easter train in the background awaits its afternoon run.  Joshua K. Blay  Bumper all assembled.  Joshua K. Blay. Virtually complete!  Just a little clean up and tamping to do and this project will be complete.  Joshua K. Blay.
